Soroptimist of the East Valley Helps Two Local Women Continue Their Dream

Published on 3/17/2019

Soroptimist International of the East Valley (SIEV) presented two women with the organization’s signature award, the Live Your Dream scholarship. Paula L. was selected as the first-place recipient, receiving $1,500 and the runner-up, Hanan D. received $1,000. The Live Your Dream Scholarship is designed to help women continue their dream by providing resources to further their education, skills and employment prospects.

LYD 2019Paula is the mother of a two-year old and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in biology. "It is important to me that I achieve my goals,” shared Paula. “Not only for me, but for my son to see that anything is possible if you work hard enough, regardless of your backgrounds and short comings. And this opportunity will help me achieve that goal."

Hanan is working towards a Bachelor’s degree in social work and has a two-year old daughter. "Despite my experience, I refused to become another statistic - I won't let my past define my future,” Hanan explained. “This scholarship will help me stay ahead and get an education that will help me serve populations that face the most disadvantages in life."
