Soroptimist of the East Valley Collecting Period Products to Benefit Local Girls

Constance Halonen | Published on 3/3/2023

The Soroptimist of the East Valley (SIEV) is collecting period products to help local girls through the month of March. Research indicates 67% of girls in the United States have missed school due to not having access to period products (Elflein, 2021).

“As an organization, we are working to remove barriers for women and girls to access education,” stated SIEV President Rhonda Rome. “As a former teacher, I know firsthand the challenges young women face and this is just one effort to help support them.”

Donations can be dropped off at two local businesses during the month of March:

-        Academy Mortgage, 115 N. Apache Trail #B, Apache Junction (M-F, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

-        ProStyle, 850 S. Ironwood Drive #106, Apache Junction (T-F, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.)

Donations will benefit Cactus Canyon Junior High School and Apache Junction High School.

Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

SIEV participates in local programs that help support the community, with a primary focus on providing access to education for women and girls. SIEV is currently accepting applications for spring scholarships. Three scholarships will be awarded to women working towards a college degree, one for $1,000 and two for $500.
